APC will reinvent Nigeria – Okonkwo (That was what PDP said and see where we are now)

The Deputy National Chairman (South) of All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Annie Okonkwo has urged all true believers and patriots in the APC doctrine of change to work relentlessly to offer Nigerians a curative relief for the endemic internal political hypertension ravaging the country through the simple prescription of inclusive internal democracy.

Senator Okonkwo, who was speaking to reporters in Awka on the sidelines of the recently conducted APC ward congresses in the country, stated that inclusive internal democracy which embodies the apostolic soul of APC must be vigorously entrenched and protected, over and above the damaging culture of imposition, selection and hotel room appointment of candidates to party positions that are clearly marked for contest by democratic elections or consensus.

The Deputy Chairman (South), who revealed that while the reports getting to him across the country on the ward congresses appear promising and encouraging, said what happened in my state, Anambra, was a peculiar apology and ruinous exception. How can any party faithful appointed to defend and superintend conformity to our great party ideals of change, turn around to compromise same in an absurd naked format, he queried? “How can the chairman of the State Congress Committee, Prince Tony Ezennia subvert and abort the popular process of election in the open arena and checked into a hotel to write names of ward party executives? How far can intolerant party players be allowed room to perpetuate yesterday’s relics of ambush and abortion of today’s popular yearnings for participation by open contest?

According to the senator, these are the issues that agitate his mind and conscience, noting that the enduring therapy for faith and belief in party principles and ethics, remain the unwavering commitment to defend same without let.

But like a statesman and reassuring the teeming supporters of APC in Anambra and the country to tarry but remain vigilant, he advised that APC must muster the courage and capacity, seize the opportunity to do the needful and deliver the proper antidote that will make their supporters’ patient expectations worthwhile, because as he put it, ‘open and transparent internal democracy is a non-negotiable instrument for party progress and strategic goal attainment’.
