Attack, a needless war – Mark, Senate

Senate President, David MarkSenate President, David Mark, on Monday condemned the bomb blast that left scores of citizens dead.

He also told the perpetrators to have a rethink because the action was a needless war.

Mark in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said no matter the anger or grievances in any body’s mind, “war on defenceless citizens is uncalled for because it is inhuman and unarguably ungodly.”

The Senate President, according to the statement, was already at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his way to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to attend the birthday of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana.

It noted that Mark, who was to receive a chieftaincy from the revered monarch, on hearing the sordid details of the blast, made a U-turn in honour of the victims.

He sympathised with the victims and reminded Nigerians of the need to be their brothers’ keeper at all times. Mark called on security operatives to collaborate with others, even as he advised them to be more proactive in order to end this menace.

Meanwhile, the Senate has decried the latest bomb blast at the Nyanya motor park, describing it as callous and wicked.

A statement by its spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, in Abuja on Monday, said the bomb blast, which claimed scores of lives was one incident by the evil minds that should prick Nigeria’s collective consciousness.

He said the Senate was worried at the dimension the orgy of terror attacks and their devilish activities were assuming.

He said, “The Senate bleeds also on the very harrowing fact that innocent lives of Nigerians, whose only sin is to go out to look for their daily bread, would be so slaughtered in this manner.

“Senate is still bemoaning the unending massacre of our people in some states in the North-East, the latest being the killings in Borno State on Sunday and now this one.”

The Senate, according to Abaribe, “is calling on the security agencies to step up their game and be more proactive, because the country cannot continue in this way.”

He said, “The blame game should be over. The security agencies must step up their game and be more proactive.

“The country is indeed bleeding of the blood of her innocent ones who are daily being cut down by the evil minds.

“The Senate, therefore, consoles the families of the dead and wish the wounded quick recovery, while also urging Nigerians to remain steadfast as the government intensifies effort to tackle the ugly menace.”
