President Goodluck Jonathan has cancelled his much anticipated visit to Chibok, Bornu, Northeastern Nigeria where over 200 girls were abducted by Islamic terrorists, Boko Haram a month ago.
Jonathan was supposed to have visited the area this morning, but presidential source said the president has cancelled the visit without appreciable reasons for the cancellation.
There has been much anticipation over the visit as the Nigerian president has not visited Chibok since the girls were kidnapped a month ago.
Security reason has been adduced for the cancellation of the visit. The president is expected to fly out to France today to attend a security meeting on Boko Haram at the instance of the French Government with head of neighbouring West African Countries of Cameroon, Chad, Niger and the rest.
Presidential source said visiting Chibok was on the president’s mind as at Friday morning, but has to cancel the trip abruptly.
Jonathan has been accused by the United States and other world powers for his slow response in getting the abducted schoolgirls rescued from their captors.
There is displeasure in the land over the inability of the President to visit Chibok even as he cancelled the trip to the troubled spot abruptly despite the military arsenals and presidential protections at his disposal.wp_posts
