Nigeria risks fresh FIFA ban
Headlines, Soccer, Sports Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014Unless the authorities concerned do something fast, Nigeria may face a fresh suspension or outright ban, if conditions demanded by Victor Baribote and his wife are not met.
Only last week, the Spokesperson of the Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led board of the Nigeria Football Federation, Chief Emeka Inyama, at a press briefing, gave condition for Baribote’s return to the board, urging him to go to the Appeals Committee.
“In the case against Baribote and others serving ban, I want to say that there is a due process. The ideal thing is that anybody banned could appeal so that the board would look into the case and, in the spirit of reconciliation, anything that could be done to move Nigerian football forward, will be done,” he noted.
However, a reliable source close to Baribote told Daily Sunsports in confidence, that the former chairman of the Nigerian Premier League (NPL) had warned that he would not hesitate to return to court, if the conditions he gave for withdrawing the case are not met.
“In fact, let me inform you that Baribote has made it clear to the board not to rejoice yet because the battle is not yet over. He is still threatening to return to court if the conditions he gave them before withdrawing the case at the Jos High Court are not met. The vacation of the order did not preclude renewing the case.
“He has not been talking because he wants to watch events but I can tell you that he was not happy to hear the board urging him to go through the Appeals Committee if he wants the illegal ban to be lifted. If they want FIFA to come hard on Nigerian football again, Baribote has made it clear that he would help them to do so,” our source quipped. wp_posts
