Ahead of their August 13 last group game against England, Nigeria’s Falconets on Monday arrived Edmonton, one of the cities hosting the Canada 2014 FIFA U-20 women’s world Cup.
The team, which flew aboard a Canada North Airline, is camped at the Delta Edmonton South Hotels and Conference Center.
According to the Media Office of the team, Elizabeth Carr, Falconets did not break routine as they continued with their daily training at the Jasper Place Bowl.
One of the Africa’s standard bearers to the FIFA Championship in Canada, Falconets will lock horns with England at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton by 6pm local time and 1am Nigerian time.
Comfortably placed at the top of Group C with four points, Nigeria only needs a draw in this last game to enter the quarter final stage of the tournament.
Falconets played their first two matches against Mexico and Korea Re- public in Moncton, where one of the strik- ers, Courtney Dike made history with her record breaking 18 seconds strike in the 2-1 defeat of Korea Republic last Sat- urday.
Meanwhile head coach, Peter Dedevbo said he was not carried away by the win against South Korea and focused on keeping the girls fit for the England encounter.
“They are here in Canada to win the World Cup, so I cannot relax on the win against Korea Republic. The English team is equally good to have qualified and thus the team must be ad- equately prepare. I want nothing less than a win against England.
“I Am happy the strategy used in the match against Korea worked, this time around am go- ing to introduce a new style of play. I must com- mend the girls for their fearless fight, and am happy there are no inju- ries among the girls”.
