Boko Haram, Borno, Headlines, State News Friday, September 5th, 2014By Ndahi Marama
MAIDUGURI—Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State who has been on foreign trip since last week was forced to cut off his trip and return to Maiduguri following the recent Boko Haram attacks on Bama town.
Governor Shettima who arrived Maiduguri, yesterday, through a chartered flight along with his entourage went straight to the Government Girls Secondary School, Yerwa, and NYSC orientation camp where the internally displaced persons are currently taking refuge.
He sympathized with the people who were forced to flee their homes following the Monday morning attack in Bama town by the terrorists.
Although the situation in Bama has been brought under control by the military and 24 hours surveillance by the joint military and civilian JTF has been initiated, the standing committee on Boko Haram insurgency relief materials and assistance set up by the state government has since swung into action to cushion sufferings of the internally displaced people.
Shettima informed the displaced persons that he had met with President Goodluck Jonathan on the security situation in Bama and other areas of the state as well as other service chiefs, and there were assurances that the Federal Government will continue to intervene and provide adequate military personnel and weapons to overcome the insurgents.
He also assured them that the state government will continue to cater for them adding that sufficient funds have been released to the committee set up by the state government under the chairmanship of Alhaji Usman Jiddah Shuwa for their welfare and feeding. Similarly, the standing committee on Boko Haram insurgency relief materials and assistance set up by the state government last year has also swung into action to cushion the sufferings of the IDPs.
