Good leadership will eliminate corruption -Kwankwaso

The Kano State Governor and presidential aspirant of the All Progressive Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Friday said that Nigeria would be able to solve the problem of corruption if Nigerians embraced good leadership.

Kwankwaso who disclosed this in Benin while addressing APC delegates in Edo State ahead of the party’s presidential primary next Wednesday, said Nigerians were good people who needed the right calibre of leader to offer them the benefit of good governance.

He noted that religion should not be a prerequisite for determining the right leader for Nigeria.

He also decried the increasing level of insurgency in the North-East.

He said, “We are looking for a competent person who can do the job whether the person is a Christian or Muslim. We have to change the current situation in the country. Nigerians are yearning for change.”

“We are in trouble in this country. North-East may be far away but the Boko Haram group has the capacity to strike everywhere.”

While soliciting support in the primary, Kwankwaso said that more governors would have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC but were coerced to remain in the PDP through the use of anti-graft agencies.

The governor, however, said that it was difficult for the PDP to blackmail him after he defected because he was focused on delivering good governance under a transparent process.

“Many of my friends in the PDP are afraid of the EFCC. They want to leave. Jigawa Governor wanted to leave but the next day he saw an advertorial.”

“I am not a businessman. I am a politician and that is why they cannot catch me. I am also not a contractor,” he said.

The presidential aspirant explained that he did not recognise the office of the First Lady in Kano State, so as to generate more funds to develop the state, adding that he succeeded in providing good governance by blocking leakages, saving funds in areas where he could and reducing cost of governance through biometrics.
