(In pictures) Yobo, Kanu lead Jonathan campaign in Rivers

Football stars Joseph Yobo and Nwankwo Kanu were among the sportmen that supported the campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on Wednesday. The former captains of the Super Eagles urged Nigerians to re-elect Jonathan on February 14.

It will be recalled that an assembly of top sports stars and personalities across the country and from various sports has expressed faith in the transformation programme of President Goodluck Jonathan especially with regards to sports and called on members of the Nigerian sports community and the public to support his re-election as an imperative for the continuity of the development and progress of the sector as well as the advancement of the welfare of Nigerian sportsmen and women.

The assembly which converged at the National Stadium, Lagos, during the weekend included leading Nigerian Olympians, ex-internationals, elite and grassroots coaches across various sports, athletes and players representatives, club managers, sports administrators and sports supporters group.

“President Jonathan has demonstrated a unique commitment to the development of sports and has performed creditably well in the transformation of the sector in his first tenure as evidenced in his support for and the achievements of various Nigerian representatives in various continental and international championships, his exemplary initiative for reforms following the Presidential Retreat on sports  and his outstanding and robust support, motivational, rewards and awards system for performing and emerging sportsmen,” they noted.
