Brown Ideye
West Brom striker Brown Ideye has expressed delight in his newfound scoring form, having netted two goals in two games for the Baggies.
Ideye had struggled to find the back of the net after he became West Brom’s record signing £10m from Dynamo Kiev last summer. He was almost sold in January after scoring only twice in 14 Premier League appearances.
The Baggies were reportedly willing to cut their losses and sell the Nigeria international to Qatar club Al Gharafa but for their failure to secure a replacement for him.
However, after scoring in West Brom’s 2-0 victory over Swansea on Wednesday, manager Tony Pulis was full of praise for the 26-year-old Nigerian striker.
It was his second goal in two matches. He had come off the bench to head home the equaliser for West Brom during their 2-2 draw away to Burnley on Sunday.
After the Swansea match, Ideye took to Twitter to thank his teammates and supporters for believing in him.
“Great game tonight! I thank God, my mates and all WBA supporters for Believing… Another day!! Another blessing. Wish you all a lovely day #Believe,” he tweeted Wednesday night.
The strike partnership of Ideye and Saido Berahino, had worked well against Swansea. Ideye scored the opener in the 60th minute when he fired into the corner of the net, after a nice combination with Berahino.
About 14 minutes later, the Ideye-Berahino combination produced another goal, which the Burundian scored and secured all three points for West Brom.
On Tuesday, Ideye had admitted that his critics were right and vowed to bounce back.
However, Pulis’ comments after the game indicated that he has regained confidence in his erstwhile disappointing signing, who is expected to see more playing time.
He said, “Ideye is a good lad and he has got a good attitude. He has trained well and worked hard. It didn’t work out for him at first but we have given him his chance and he has taken it.
“Victor Anichebe is injured so we only have those two strikers to the end of the season, they played well today and I’m very pleased they got the goals.
“But we have midfielders that can also get goals and would be looking for the defenders to contribute too.
“The only thing we can affect is our game, so forget about the rest. If we get to 40 points we will be safe.”
