Rivers defection: Tele Ikuru remains my deputy –Amaechi
Headlines, Rivers, State News Thursday, March 26th, 2015From CHRIS ANUCHA, Port Harcourt
Contrary to speculations that the deputy governor of Rivers State, Tele Ikuru, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) last Sunday, would be impeached and replaced, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday said his position remained intact.
The governor said though, he had been reading about his deputy’s defection to PDP in the media, he (Ikuru) was yet to resign officially, from his cabinet, as there was no letter to that effect.
The Governor, who spoke through his Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, shortly after an Executive Council meeting yesterday, toldjournalists: “status quo remains.”
Amaechi explained that though, Ikuru dumped APC for PDP, it did not in any way affect his position in his government.
He also debunked the recent claim, by the state chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Felix Obuah, that some commissioners in his cabinet, would soon decamp to PDP, describing it as false.
According to him, every member of the cabinet was present at yesterday’s council meeting, except Ikuru and the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Tony Okocha, who he said, was campaigning as House of Representatives candidate.
