Watch out for explosive laden hampers, police warn Nigerians

Abuja – The Police High Command Monday joined other security agencies in calling on Nigerians to be security conscious and vigilant during the Yuletide season and warned all citizens to be extra alert while receiving gifts from unknown persons that may pose as friends during the season, to avoid explosive-laden hampers as gifts.
Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase who gave the warning in a statement, also cautioned against the use of fireworks such as knockout, “bangers” and other explosives in the celebrations as they could cause distraction that may further heighten fear of insecurity.
The statement signed by Force Public Relations officer, Acting ACP Olabisi Kolawole said, “He (IGP) also enjoined citizens to shun all forms of violence and unlawful acts, eschew bitterness, hatred and rancour and go about their legitimate duties without fear of intimidation from any quarter during and after the season.
