U.S. government blocks Chinese airlines from flying into the U.S.
American Politics, Aviation, Headlines, NNP News Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020(NNP) In a move that appear to be retaliatory, the Trump administration has blocked Chinese airlines from flying into the country. This decision is in response to China denying re-entry flights to United Airlines and Delta which stopped flying into China as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The U.S. accused the Chinese government of violating an agreement when it refused to grant permission to the two American carriers to resume their pre-coronavirus flight schedule on June 1.
A statement from the U.S. Department of Transportation stated, “Chinese aviation authorities have failed to permit US air carriers to operate the routes they previously flew.” The statement continued, “The Department will continue to engage our Chinese counterparts so both U.S. and Chinese carriers can fully exercise their bilateral rights,” the department said in a statement. In the meantime, we will allow Chinese carriers to operate the same number of scheduled passenger flights as the Chinese government allows ours.”
The ban will be effective on June 16.
