Africa & World Politics, American Politics, NNP News Tuesday, April 20th, 2021(NNP) A Minnesota jury in the United States has found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty on all three counts of Second Degree Murder, Third Degree Murder and Second Degree Manslaughter. Chauvin was the Minneapolis police officer who killed George Floyd when he knelt on his neck for Nine minutes and twenty seconds. The jury of 12 men and women deliberated for only ten hours before reaching a guilty verdict. The judge will determine his sentence in the next several weeks. Chauvin could spend 40 years behind bars on the severest of the charges of second degree murder. The other two charges have a cumulative sentence of 35 years behind bars. This verdict has in some way brought respite to the Black community and some reassurance that Black Lives Matter.
