Rivers group warns against threat to Amaechi’s life
Governors, Rivers, State News Wednesday, April 6th, 2011THE Rivers People Congress, yesterday, warned that no harm must befall the state governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
National leader of the group, Chief Martins Kunumgbe, in a statement said the Federal Government should offer protection to the citizens, adding that a strong security presence is needed in the riverine parts of the state.
The statement said: “There are indications of violence and threats from opposition politicians in Rivers State and we hereby warn those threatening the life of Governor Amaechi to have a rethink because we will not fold our hands and watch people cause trouble in Rivers State.”
Kunumgbe who recently addressed indigenes of the state in Lagos and Accra, Ghana urged those who registered in the state to go home and exercise their civic rights.
He said: “Those looking for Amaechi’s downfall are not after Amaechi, but after Rivers people and anyone who hates Amaechi in the state is an enemy of the people and progress.”
He noted that the group’s support for Amaechi was based on his people-oriented leadership style “which has brought substantial dividends of democracy to the state,” adding that Ogoloma, Isiokpo, Omoku and Andoni communities did well for endorsing Amaechi as their sole candidate in response to the call by the group.
Kunumgbe said: “Amaechi rescued Rivers from the reign of terror. The governor should be careful with some pretenders who behave as if they love the state. He should check his cabinet and fish out enemies of the state because so many people in Rivers are enemy of the state.”-Sunwp_posts
