Three white men who shot and killed a Black jogger in the Unitied States have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Africa & World Politics, American Politics, NNP News Sunday, January 9th, 2022(NNP) Three white men, two of them a father-son combo, who killed a 25-year-old Black jogger, Ahmaud Arbery, have been sentenced to life imprison by a Georgia court in the United States. The men Gregory (35) and Travis (66) McMichael and William Bryan Jr. (52) falsely detained Arbery as he jogged in his neighbourhood on suspicion of mischief. Arbery struggled to break free when Grogory shot and killed him leaving his body lying on the ground without rendering first aid or calling for help.
The father, Travis, a former police officer and son (Gregory) showed no remorse for their heinous crime, a fact that was noted by the judge in his sentencing remarks. They were sentenced to life imprisonment without the chance for parole. Bryan Jr. who videotaped the killing and used his truck to block Arbery from leaving also received life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after serving 30 years. Arbery was murdered in February 2020.
