Akwa Ibom: ACN candidate cries foul
Akwa Ibom, Elections 2011, State News Sunday, April 10th, 2011
The Akwa Ibom State North East Senatorial District (Uyo) candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Nsima Umo, has alleged diversion of voting materials by some thugs.
He said, “I want to report that voting materials for Ikpanya Ward 11 were diverted around 10am today (Saturday). I request that election in that ward be cancelled.
“I am saying thisfor the sake of Nigeria, our children and our future. The era of carry go must stop. The tension will be too high for anyone that steals vote today. Everybody has one vote, irrespective of your position. Go and cast your only one vote.”
However, the state Commissioner for Finance, who comes from the area, denied the diversion of electoral materials in the council.
At Ididep Usuk, Ibiono Ibom, persons suspected to be thugs were seen on motorbikes with Independent National Electoral boxes heading towards unknown destination.
At Ukana West Ward 2, Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state, about 1200 registered voters were seen queuing up at various polling centres to cast their votes.
