Presidential polls: INEC receives 1.9m ballot papers in Ogun
Elections 2011, Ogun, State News Friday, April 15th, 2011A total of 1, 980,000 ballot papers have been received by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State ahead of tomorrow’s presidential election.
Also, all the Form EC8 series needed for the recording of the election results were also received.
Disclosing this, on Thursday, to newsmen was the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Martins Okunfolami, during the distribution of the materials, which arrived at the commission’s headquarters by 10 a.m. same day directly from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters in Abuja.
Okunfolami said that out of the 3.7 million population of the state, only 1, 947, 258 were registered voters, saying that the surplus was to cater for any exigency that might arise in the course of the elections.
“The early arrival is part of the efficiency package we put into the whole thing.
“We have learnt lessons from what happened during the National Assembly polls that we had to postpone the whole of the elections.
“Now we want to ensure that no election materials will be delayed and no elections will be postponed again,” he said.
The REC further said that the materials would be distributed to the 20 local government areas between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday.
