IMG blasts Yuguda over comments on slain NYSC members

The Ijaw Monitoring Group, IMG, has berated Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State for his alleged comment on the killing of several National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members serving in the Northern part of the country.

It will be recalled that Governor Yuguda was quoted last week as saying that the killers of the NYSC members were helping the victims to fulfill their destiny and as such, should not be prosecuted by the state.

Addressing newsmen, in Lagos, IMG Coordinator, Comrade Joseph Evah, said that the death of the young NYSC members did not allow the people of Niger Delta celebrate the victory of at the polls.

He said: “Shame on Governor Yuguda. I am very sure his wife, children and the people of Bauchi State are ashamed of him. Even the first Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Tafawa Balewa, who is from Bauchi State, is ashamed of him in the grave. Yuguda’s shameful comment is not new to Nigerians.

“The President had promised compensation for the killed NYSC members and to give them befitting honour but enemies of progress will use the so-called due process formula to delay compensation or allow the injustice to be buried under the carpet.

“We are aware of all the promises by government in the case of Jos massacre, yet the criminals were not brought to Justice.

“Two years ago, a youth copper from Akwa Ibom State, serving in Bornu State, was killed by Boko Haram followers, who accused her of wearing trousers as a lady, claiming that the dressing was against their religion.

“Despite the fact that the matter was reported in the media, showing her NYSC uniform and reports of the agony of her parents in the Niger Delta, nothing was done,” he added.

“It is very clear that people who are not qualified to be ward councilors in sane societies like south-Africa or Ghana are today parading our country as state governors that is why Nigeria is not making the desire progress. Why are we so much concern about Yuguda’s insult on the death the youth coppers? We are concerned because Yuguda is a very powerful governor.”
