NDDC crisis: N’Delta youths accuse SGF, N’Assembly members of connivance

The crisis of confidence rocking the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) might be far from over as a group of Niger Delta youths calling for the removal of key officers of the commission pointed the finger at federal lawmakers from the South-south as being the brain behind the incessant bickering among the commission’s directors.

Specifically, the youths alleged that the National Assembly members had been inciting members of the commission against its management and setting the directors against one another through undue interference in the operations of the commission. President of the Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC), Mr. Donatus Ebisin, while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, said the lawmakers had been pursuing NDDC contracts to the utter neglect of their constitutional duty of lawmaking and asked President Goodluck Jonathan to call them to order within 21 days or risk unpleasant consequences.

Ebisin lamented that the office of the executive director, projects, of the commission had been rendered ineffective by the combined forces of the federal lawmakers, the Managing Director of NDDC, Mr. Chibuzor Ugwoha and the Head of Due Process of the commission, Mr. Kaltungo Moljiego, with support from the federal lawmakers.

He alleged that the crisis within the commission had been fuelled by alleged unilateral award of contracts by Ugwoha and Moljiego without regard for due diligence and laid down principles sometimes with shielding from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yahale Ahmed. While calling for the removal of the SGF whose office oversees the affairs of the commission, the youth leader said the managing director and the EDP must be called to order to restore sanity in the management of the commission.

Ebisin added: “Mr. President should, as a matter of urgency, sack Chibuzor Ugwoha and Mr. Kaltungo Moljiego, head of Due Process in NDDC and the secretary to the government of the federation for undermining the office of the executive director in charge of projects by running the commission as if it was their private property.
