Zamfara governor-elect to sack 10,000 workers
Headlines, State News, Zamfara Thursday, May 19th, 2011Zamfara State governor-elect, Alhaji Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari may sack 10,000 ghost and illegal workers just as he alerted security agencies over alleged looting of government property by the outgoing administration. He urged the security agency to find ways of curbing unprecedented looting in this period of transition in the state.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, in Gusau, the governor-elect who spoke through the Chairman, sub-committee on Information and Publicity of the Transition Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed Birnin Magaji said they had received information of unwholesome activities of the outgoing administration.
“Gentlemen, I call you to share a disturbing information. The transition committee received with regard to some unwholesome activities, which include massive and unprecedented recruitment exercise embarked upon by the outgoing PDP Government in the state.” The governor-elect also lamented the massive recruitment of over 10,000 civil servants by the outgoing administration few days to its handing over.
“It sounds unbelievable that from the time Ahlaji Abdulaziz Yari was declared governor-elect ,the outgoing Governor has approved the recruitment of over ten thousand additional workers in the state.” According to the Yari, the outgoing governor, had also approved the appointment of numerous permanent secretaries and Director Generals.” For a government that was fighting tooth and nail every month to pay salaries of the existing staff strength of about 20,000 to recruit such a number of additional staffers few days to handing over.”
He said this is a clear indication that the outgoing administration was planting a seed of industrial crises for the incoming administration, ”under the unwholesome recruitment exercise every local government has recruited not less than four hundred additional staffs most of whom were believed are ghost.”
Given instances of clear looting, government property such as furniture, office equipment and appliances were being looted by unscrupulous outgoing office holders and civil servants in the state. He therefore assured the patriotic workers in the state who are loyal to the civil service that the administration of Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar will take proper care and welfare and ensure the sanctity of the civil service in the state.
