Nigeria to host 39th World Congress on Military Medicine
Armed Forces, Headlines Wednesday, June 15th, 2011Abuja – Nigeria is to host the 39th World Congress on Military Medicine from Nov. 20 to Nov. 25, 2011, says Maj.-Gen. Merlin Macel, Chairman, Scientific Council of International Committee on Military Medicine (ICMM).
Marcel disclosed this when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Azubuike Ihejirika.
He said they were in the country for a pre-assessment visit and find out preparations being made for the hosting of the conference.
He said they would be looking at the preparation of the congress committee and assist in making it a success.
ICMM was established in 1921 after the 1st World War to ensure that all the medical officers of the different military services around the world cooperate during peace time as well as share knowledge and experience in the field of health care to victims of war and all disaster.
Responding, Ihejirika thanked the team for choosing Nigeria as the host country.
Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Nigeria Army, Maj-Gen. Olakunle Akinyemi, he emphasised the importance of military medicine to the profession.
“It is good you have come to the country to see the plans on ground so that you will have a very successful congress.
“It is my hope that at the end of your visit, you will be satisfied both by the content and logistic arrangement for the congress, “ he said .
On his part, Commodore Azeez Afolayan , the Director-General of the congress said Nigeria was fully prepared to host the congress .
“I can assure you that we are fully prepared to host the congress and the team is in the country to assess Nigeria’s preparations,” he said.
The 38th Congress of World Military Medicine was held in Malaysia in 2009. (NAN)
