Bomb Blast : Lawmaker Challenges Jonathan
Boko Haram, House, Latest Politics, Legislature, Senate Sunday, June 19th, 2011
President Goodluck Jonathan
Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, who represents Kano South senatorial district in the senate, has called on the federal government to fish out those behind the suicide bomb attack on the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Gaya, who spoke to THISDAY on a number of national issues on Friday in Kano, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to as a matter of urgent national importance utilise his constitutional powers to curb the growing insecurity in the country.
He maintained that the bomb blast was an attack not only on the Nigeria Police, but on the consciousness of Nigeria as a nation, saying that the federal government must deploy all resources available to it to “fish out the criminal elements that masterminded the dastardly act.”
According to Gaya, “The latest bomb blast right at the heart of the nation’s security organisation is indeed a matter of serious national concern that requires concerted efforts by all Nigerians.
We believe that this unwholesome development, as frightening as it may seem, could be tackled if all available avenues are explored so as to ensure the security of citizens’ lives and property.”
Gaya said the attack “once again underscores the need to adequately equip the nation’s security outfits, particularly the police, with state-of-the-art security apparatuses.
“As we join all well meaning Nigerians in condemning this act of terror and inhumanity of man to his fellow man, we call on all stakeholders in the nation’s security system to immediately bring this ugly trend to an end.”
Gaya stressed the need to train the country’s security operatives in modern techniques of crime prevention and combating.
