NDDC assures on capacity building in N-Delta

UGHELLI— MANAGING Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr. Chibuzor Ugwoha, has stressed the readiness of the commission to build capacity in the Niger Delta region.

Ugwoha, who stated this during the second phase of the capacity building workshop for Delta State Secondary Schools ICT and Core subject Teachers organised by the commission, said the capacity building workshop was holding across the nine states in the Niger Delta region.

The Director, Education, Health and Social Services, Mr. Osmond Adiele, who represented Ugwoha, said the capacity building workshop was in line with the Niger Delta Regional Development Master Plan, NDRDMP, and the Federal Government’s Scientific Initiatives Development, FGSID.

Restating the determination of the NDDC towards improved infrastructural development and human capacity building for the region, he said the Commission believes that sound education was a vital requirement for the development of the region’s human capital.

“The teacher remains the most important variable in the school system. This is the factor that combines other factors to create good results. It is in recognition of this fact that we had assembled a team of Professors, educational experts and councilors as resource persons to train our teachers with a view to developing their capacities in the areas of Core Subjects and ICT,” Ugwoha said.

According to him, more than 1,350 secondary schools core subjects’ teachers benefited from the first phase of the capacity building workshop by NDDC in all the nine states of the Niger Delta, adding that in the second phase of the programme, the Commission intends to train 2,000 teachers, including Principals and Vice Principals of selected schools.
