Abia: Justice Akomas kidnapped in Aba

Umuahia -THE security being enjoyed by residents of Aba, the commercial capital of Abia state since soldiers from 82 Division of Nigerin Army launched ‘Operation Jubilee’ aimed at flushing out criminal elements, especially kidnappers was disrupted Tuesday night, when Justice Igbozuruike Akomas was kidnapped in his house in Aba.

Justice Akomos who retired from service late last year was said to have been abducted by unknown gun men as he was entering his residence in Aba.

The abduction of the Judge came barely six days when a Rev. Sister and her maid were kidnapped in Ozuabam, Arochukwu Council area and less than one week when the son a former university vice chancellor was also reported to have been abducted in Umudike, near Umuahia, the state capital.

These incidents have since sent fears into the residents of Abia who are afraid that the kidnappers may have regrouped within the little space created by involvement of soldiers and most policemen and other security agencies in the conduct of the on-going general elections.

Lawyers in the state are said to be locked in a marathon meeting as at press time and are planning to issue an ultimatum to Government and security agencies to rescue Justice Akomas or they abandon the courts in the state.

When contacted the Abia polce command spokesman, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the abduction of the Judge and that he has not been found. But he assured that the command was working round the clock to rescue the Judge and apprehend the hoodlums.
