Abia: No going back on transfer of non-natives – Ubani
Abia, Headlines, Imo, State News Thursday, October 6th, 2011The intended transfer of service of non-Abia State civil servants to their states of origin has resulted in a war of words between the two information commissioners in Abia and Imo states.
The Abia State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Don Ubani said yesterday that there was no going back on that policy by the state government as far as the government of Theodore Orji was concerned.
Ubani, who was speaking to journalists while reacting to the write up credited to the Imo State Information Commissioner, Obinna Duruji, said his colleague from the neighbouring state got it wrong and should stop deceiving the public. According to him, the state had not done wrong transferring the services of the non-natives back to their states of origin. He stressed that in 2002, Imo State sent Abia workers working in the state back to Abia without writing the state government on the need to reabsorb them.
Duruji had in a write up published in one of the newspapers described the action of the Abia State government as irreprehensible, obsolete and irrational, saying the state government was not happy about the comment. Ubani noted that Duruji had also said that Governor Theodore Orji had some uncomplimentary documents against him. “We know of some governors very close to us with some 419 records and we can comfortably say that our governor is not one of such,” Ubani said.
