Abuja Oct. 1 bombings: Another Mastermind gets life jail term
Abuja (FCT), Latest Politics, State News Saturday, January 26th, 2013Following the conviction of the leader of the Movement for the
Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), Henry Okah in South Africa,
another mastermind of the October 1, 2010 twin-bombings in Abuja,
Edmund Ebiware has been sentenced to a life imprisonment for
complicity in the attack that killed about 12 people and destroyed
several cars.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the federal high court, Abuja said
prosecution team was able to establish that Ebiware was in contact
with the MEND leader, Henry Okah who was convicted on Monday by
a South African court.
“From the evidences of the prosecution witnesses, the accused had
fore knowledge of the intention of Okah to attack the government”
the Judge added
He also noted that the attack would have been averted if Ebiware
had reported Okah’s intention to bomb Nigerians as well as
dignitaries who gathered at the Eagle Square to celebrate Nigeria’s
50th independence anniversary.
Recall that on Monday that a South African court convicted Mr Henry
Okah in the deadly Abuja 2010 bombings.
Okah was found guilty of engaging in terrorist activities, conspiracy
to engage in terrorist activity, and delivering, placing, and detonating
an explosive device.
He faces life imprisonment as well.
