Achebe: Anambra govt commends Jonathan, Mahama, others

STILL basking in the euphoria of the success of the burial of the literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe, the Anambra State government yesterday commended President Goodluck Jonathan and his Ghanaian counterpart, Dr. John Mahama and other people from all over the world for according the great writer a befitting burial.

Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike said by his personal attendance and attracting another president and other dignitaries to the burial, President Jonathan had done Anambra State proud.

He said: “Government appreciates what people did to give Achebe a befitting burial. We are appreciative of the work of the various committees, both local and international, which ensured the success of the burial ceremony.

“The government of Anambra State is particularly grateful to all the people who paid condolences to Achebe, both in Nigeria and in foreign missions. Achebe was well celebrated abroad, Abuja , Enugu , Awka and Ogidi and we remain grateful to all the people that contributed.”
