Acting Governor Sacks SSG

THE Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Umaru Fintri, has commenced formation of his cabinet, sacking, in the process, Mr. Kobis Ari, former Secretary to the State Government under the defunct government of

Murtala Nyako.

The new SSG, Prof. Liman Tukur, had been chairman of the Adamawa Universal Basic Education Board, prior to his sack by Nyako.

Fintri charged the new SSG to adhere to the rule of law and carry out his duties without fear or favour.

The Acting Governor said a cardinal point of his administration would be protecting life and property of citizens of the state and defending the provisions of the constitution and his oath.

Fintri said his administration would treat all citizens in the state fairly, giving equal opportunity for contributions to the development of the state.

He gave assurance to workers that unpaid wages would be cleared as soon as possible.

Commenting on the judgment, the state chairman of Nigeria Bar

Association, Jeremiah Dzarma, said it is a victory for democracy and the rule of law.

The state chairman, Congress for Progressive Change, Alhaji Ibrahim Waziri, however said that the former governor would return to office.

Contacted, the director general of Nyako’s campaign machine, Mr. Felix Tangwami, said the PDP is still studying the court ruling.

Thousands of workers took to the streets with singing as news of Nyako’s removal filtered in.

The workers say they have declared tomorrow a work-free day to enable civil servants in the state celebrate the exit of Nyako.

The secretary of Junior Workers Association, Alhaji Buba Ahmed, told The Guardian at the weekend that the exit of the former governor marked the end of oppression. He lamented that for two months, workers in the state were not paid salaries.

“Nyako will not return again in Adamawa Government House. He should forever forget the dream of entering that office again,” he said
