Anglican Church laments sexual abuse of female corps members

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), The Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, on Sunday, at the Bible Study session,prelude to the Holy Communion Service at the Cathedral Church of The Advent in Abuja, lamented how ladies, expecially those on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are losing their virginity due to widespread unemployment.

He declared: “Most of these ladies, after their orientation, are seen roaming the streets looking for employment and accommodation.”

“In the process of looking for where to lay their heads,” the Primate continued’, “they usually fall into the hands of wolves who devour them.”

Primate Okoh said the ladies, in some cases, were lured by so-called uncles or cousins, who usually turned out to be “wolves in sheep skins.”

He blamed the church and the government for failing to offer succour to these victims who really want to protect the sanctity of Christian marriage.

Primate Okoh noted that Nigeria could have been a better place if these youths “are well catered for” rather than allowing them to wallow in misery.

He disclosed that the Anglican Communion had commenced the building of an estate for youth corps members to help solve the accommodation problem.
