Benin Cult War Claims 10 More Lives
Headlines, Uncategorized Saturday, January 15th, 2011Residents of Ogida quarters, Benin woke up Friday to find 10 corpses in the area believed to be victims of the latest round of clashes between members of the Eiye Confraternity and the Black Axe.
A similar clash on Eweka Street, Thursday afternoon, had claimed two lives.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that one of the cult groups went on a revenge mission to Uwelu quarters after finding some of its members killed. The bloody mission resulted in the death of three people.
Gunshots raged on Bendel street yesterday with residents running for their lives. The dead bodies were taken to the Central Hospital mortuary in Benin.
Police detectives were subsequently deployed in the area for investigation.
A senior police officer confirmed eight deaths, but residents spoke of 10.
The state police spokesman, Peter Ogboi could not be reached when Vanguard called, but one of his aides said he was in at a security meeting on the issue.
