Boko Haram: JTF discovers bomb factory in Kano
Armed Forces, Boko Haram, Headlines, Kano, State News Tuesday, April 24th, 2012Members of the Joint Security Task Force (JTF) in Kano State yesterday announced the discovery of a bomb-making facility believed to belong to members of the Boko Haram sect. Spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha, disclosed this while conducting reporters round the said facility situated at Haye Hotoro Arewa, a suburb of the state capital.
Iweha said the discovery followed a tip-off, adding that security operatives had received intelligence report to the effect of the arrival of one of the kingpins of the sect, a situation, which informed their placing the said house under surveillance for a long time.
He disclosed that the JTF eventually decided to raid the house in the early hours of yesterday, adding that at the end of the operation, the operatives discovered some Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) in the house that was isolated from the densely populated area.
He added that other discoveries included assorted containers, drums of liquid substances, charcoals, housewhole items and video tapes of the late Al Qaeda leader, Osama Bin laden.
He regretted that the main target of the operation escaped being arrested, adding that a few suspects were, however, arrested.
Besides, he said two housewives and some children were rescued from the facility.
Iweha disclosed that the affected house would be demolished with Military Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and the bomb items destroyed.
His words: “We discovered this house where these terrorists used to make their bombs. As you can see, they were already priming these explosives before we came here. We couldn’t get our target as he had escaped, but I can tell you that some arrests were made.”
The spokesman equally used the opportunity to appeal to the people of the state to continue to assist the operatives with useful information, adding that their information would be treated with confidentiality.
