Boko Haram members kill police officer in Borno
Borno, State News Tuesday, January 4th, 2011The murder of the policeman came two days after Saturday’s setting ablaze of Victory Christ Church (VICC) in the same neighbourhood of Gwange ward by 10 suspected members of the Islamic sect, who allegedly used petro-bombs in burning down the church.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Abubakar, said: “Yes, one of our officers and men, Corporal James was shot and killed at about 9.25 a.m. while returning from the office on a night patrol to his Gwange residence”.
He told The Guardian that two gunmen on a motorcycle trailed the police officer to his residence before firing shots at him at the entrance to his house.
On whether arrests were made, Abubakar said: “No, no arrests were made apart from the 92 suspects held by the police last Thursday, including their financier, Bunu Wakil”, stating that the information provided by some residents to the police yesterday could assist in arresting the assailants.
