Boko Haram: N’ Assembly to revisit Anti-Terrorism Act – Mark

Senate President David Mark on Monday assured Nigerians that the National Assembly will as a matter of urgency revisit the Anti-Terrorism Act to give maximum legislative and legal support in the fight against the Boko Haram menace.

Senator Mark disclosed this when he led Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and other principal members of the National Assembly on an on-the-spot-assessment of the damage done by the sect on some major parts of Kano city last Friday.

The Senate president condoled with the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, Kano Emirates Council, state government and the people of the state assuring that those behind these dastard attacks would be brought to book.

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, Senator Mark said: “We will do all within our powers to ensure that we don’t have a repeat of this anywhere in our country. If there is anything we, in the National Assembly, can do in terms of taking a second look at the Anti-Terrorism Act, we will go ahead and do it. We will give maximum legislative and legal support so that those who are involved are dealt with.
“It’s time for all good men in our country to speak out and condemn this act with all our might and with all our powers. It is also time for our security agencies to double their efforts and prevent such mishaps before they happen.

“We have taken all the risk against all security reports to be here, coming together to assure you and the whole of Kano State that what has happened here has not only affected Kano State but the whole nation. The National Assembly stands solidly behind you along with the people of Nigeria.”
He further assured that the National Assembly would ensure that the few misguided Nigerians who had been led to this act would not take this country hostage. There was no way we are going to stand by and fold our hands and watch Boko Haram committing these crimes.
“I believe those who are involved are misguided and are being led astray by whatever forces that exist in this country that do not want the progress of our nation,” Mark said.
