Bomb scare in Abuja
Abuja (FCT), Headlines, State News Tuesday, May 1st, 2012A bomb scare yesterday paralysed business activities around Banex Plaza, the most popular electronics and telecommunications market in Abuja. Within minutes of rumours that a plastic bag suspected to contain a bomb was sighted at the plaza, shop owners and customers stampeded out.
The adjoining Emab and Sharrif plazas were not spared.
Officers of the Nigeria Police Bomb Disposal Unit and the State Security Services (SSS), were sighted at the place apparently scanning the area for the device.
They had earlier cordoned off parts of the Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, searching vehicles and in some cases, passers by.
A computer engineer at the plaza told Daily Sun that the scare dealt a blow on business and that such might linger. He however saw nothing wrong in people erring on the side of caution.
“You won’t blame people. Bombs have been hurled at prominent security officers so a plaza like ours is a lame duck. We thank God it was only a scare. May we never experience such,” he prayed.
Daily Sun gathered that yesterday’s bomb scare might have been fuelled by the attack last Thursday by a suicide bomber on Thisday newspaper’s office in Jabi District, Abuja.
The day after the attack on Thisday, an anonymous letter to officials of the Development Control of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) reportedly caused pandemonium.wp_posts
