Borno, Latest Politics, State News Thursday, May 5th, 2011SUSPECTED Boko Haram gunmen have shot and killed three prisons warders, along with a housewife, in two separate attacks on Monday and Tuesday in Abaganaram ward of Maiduguri metropolis.
One of the prison warders and his wife, were ambushed on Monday night at the Abagaram ward shop at about 10.35 p.m., while the two other prisons officials were gunned down on Tuesday at their residences in Gwange and Gamboru wards by two suspected Islamic sect members carrying Kalashnikov rifles under their long gowns.
Confirming the serial killings, the Borno State Assistant Police Commissioner, Usman Baba, said: “Four suspected Islamic sect members on two separate motorcycles on Monday and Tuesday shot and killed three prisons warders, along with the wife of one of the victims at a local shop”.
He said that barely two hours after the warders were killed, a police officer was also ambushed by the two suspects on a motorcycle, who shot him in the head and chest.
Baba said: “It was barely two hours after we received the distress call from the Divisional Police Officer of Abaganaram Police Station that the anti-riot policeman on duty was shot and killed by the same suspected gunmen who killed the prisons officials and one of their wives”.
He said even though there were no arrests made yet by the police, the information provided by eyewitnesses on the three separate attacks in two wards, will assist the police and other security agents in fishing out the assailants who have continued to wage a “guerrilla warfare” against the police and residents of Maiduguri.
