Breaking News: Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari, dies from coronavirus

He died in Lagos on April 17 after contracting the coronavirus. In all likelihood, Kyari would have been rushed to an European hospital for first-class treatment from the deadly virus had international borders and air spaces not been closed. A statement from the presidency reads – “The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.”
The lawyer and graduate of Cambridge University had been one of the trusted hands of the president and had been his Chief of Staff since August 17, 2015, the year the president defeated the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan. The late Kyari would be buried shortly in accordance with Islamic rites.
