Dear Professor Oluchi,

I am a 300 level student at Lagos State University and my boyfriend recently told me that he is bisexual and is interested in of all people a former boyfriend of mine whom I broke up with to date him. I am very shocked and confused at this announcement as his sexual interest is not in line with my values and I am in no way ready to compromise my religious and cultural values on sexuality. How should I approach this situation?

Thank you for the courage to send this email, I understand your position. If your values are not in line with your boyfriend’s sexual interest, it is very understandable and I will advise that you stay true to your values and have a talk with him about going your separate ways. It will be better for you to date a gentleman who shares the same values with you. It makes the relationship easier. Additionally, his going after your ex boyfriend speaks volumes about his character and suggests that he has very little regard for you and your feelings. I say it’s time to count your losses, pack your bags and head out the door.
