China orders U.S. diplomatic mission closed
Africa & World Politics, American Politics, Headlines, NNP News Friday, July 24th, 2020(NNP) The Chinese government on Friday ordered the U.S. to close its Chengdu Consulate in retaliation for the U.S. closure of the Chinese Consulate in Houston. The U.S. accused consulate officials of stealing intellectual property and spying on Americans, a claim vehemently denied by the Chinese government which accused the U.S. of harassing its citizens who are going about their normal business in the U.S. These recent moves by both sides is certain to further heighten tension between the two countries.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the U.S. has accused China of spreading the virus and not doing enough to warn other countries of the potency of the virus. As a result of this failure, according to the U.S., much of the world has shut down and economies ruined. Of late, President Donald Trump has referred to the virus as the “Chinese virus,” in a bid to further stigmatize the Asian country.
