Cleric tasks Jonathan, Sultan, SSS on sponsors
Boko Haram, Latest Politics, Sultan of Sokoto Thursday, September 22nd, 2011A conflict resolution consultant and leader of the Macedonian Initiatives, Reverend Ladi Thompson has tasked President Goodluck Jonathan as well as the State Security Service (SSS), to reveal the identities of the sponsors of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram with a view to bringing them to book and put an end to the needless carnage in the country.
The Cleric also challenged the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Abubakar Sa’ad as well as the State Security Service (SSS), to speak up on the allegations contained in the recent reports of Wiki leaks that some eminent traditional rulers in the north have secret arrangement with the SSS to always release arrested bombers to them for rehabilitation.
Speaking at a media interaction in Lagos, the clergyman reminded that, “recently, President Jonathan claimed that the Federal government have discovered the sponsors of the sect and that they would soon be exposed.”
He added that the SSS also promised the nation that they would soon arrest the sponsors and arraign them for trial wondering “how long will it take both the President and the SSS to carry out their promises to allow peace to reign in the country!”
As the Chief Security Officer and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Thompson reasoned that “when the President of a nation speaks, he is always taken serious,” pointing out that “Mr. President’s silence gives a wrong signal that it seems as if he doesn’t appreciate the consequence of such claims, or that those involved are sacred cows who are untouchable.”
While raising the alarm that “the country is sitting on a keg of gun powder, the concerned cleric said “time is running out and Nigerians are waiting to see concrete actions and concerted efforts from the President and the SSS towards the exposure of the sponsors and bringing them to book.
He was also of the belief that “with the Sultan’s security background, it is expected that he should have assisted the Federal Government in exposing the perpetrators of the dastardly acts,” describing his silence on the WikiLeaks’ allegation as ominous.
The clergy man then suggested that an independent agency be put in place and manned by very intelligent officials with requisite courage to handle the Boko Haram issues, warning that “the way we are going, if nothing concrete is done to arrest the situation, nobody is safe.”
