Delta uncovers fraud in N1bn agric loan
Delta, State News Monday, May 14th, 2012Delta State Government has uncovered alleged fraud in the disbursement of N1
billion agricultural loans to farmers in the state. The discovery was coming one
month after Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan disbursed loans obtained from the Federal
Government and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Commissioner for
Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Misan Kubeyinje who said his office
discovered the fraud, added that all the cases were being investigated and that
a report would be submitted to the governor or security agents at the
appropriate time.
Giving insight into the nature of the fraud, Kubeinje
stated that some persons who were not farmers forged certificates of other
farmers in an attempt to defraud the state government, while others attempted to
collect cheques meant for other farmers.
He alleged that some people came
with fake certificates, some tried to collect other peoples cheques but the
cases were being investigated and at the end of the day, report would be forward
to the governor for necessary action.
On the alleged brawl with Dr. Edwin
Uwagie-Ero, his Special Assistant (SA) which led to the SA’s resignation last
week, the commissioner debunked the allegations, claiming that those peddling
the rumours were mischief makers. “It is not true. My SA is Mr. Sunday Asama
officially. Dr. Edwin Uwagie-Ero is a friend that I brought into the ministry to
assist me technically, so he is not my official SA.
I never had any
confrontation with anybody,” he explained.
