Drugs Concealed in Man’s Shoes as NDLEA Arrests 7

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has again traced narcotics concealed inside the sole of a passenger’s shoes.

The development came even as seven suspected drug traffickers were found to be in possession of 8.262 kilogrammes of illicit drugs.

One of the suspected drug traffickers that supplies phone accessories, Onuora Emeka, hid one kilogramme of methamphetamine in his shoes.

Onuora, who was about to board an Emirate Flight on his way to Malaysia when he was arrested, came to sojourn in Lagos in 2000 and resides at Iyana Oba, Ojo Area of Lagos.

The seven drug suspects, who are all males, were nabbed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos while attempting to export the drugs out of the country.

A breakdown of the drugs seized from them revealed that cocaine is the largest with 5.98kg, methamphetamine was next with 2.177kg and cannabis, 105 grammes.

NDLEA Airport Commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, who supervised the recent crackdown, described the arrests and seizures as timely.

“The arrests also saved four of the drug suspects from possible execution upon their arrest in Malaysia and Hong Kong,“ he added.

Two of the suspects, Emeka, 33, and Dike Stanley Nnamezie, 31, were going to Malaysia while two others, Iruna Ibe Ben, 31, and Nzekwe Elochukwu, 33, were on their way to Hong Kong where drug offences attract capital punishment.

The commander gave the names of the other drug suspects arrested as Agwuluonu Okechukwu Benneth, 40, found in possession of 1.765kg of cocaine on his way to Hannover, Germany; Nnamani Fidelis, 39, caught with 1.400kg of cocaine; and Nwafor Livinus Edikeme, 37, nabbed with 1.550kg of cocaine.

Both Nnamani and Nwafor were on their way to London when they were apprehended at the Lagos airport.

Also speaking on the latest arrests, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade, called on the judiciary to apply the law sternly on drug suspects so as to serve as a deterrent to them and others who may be contemplating drug trafficking.
