Ebonyi moves to end doctors agitation for pay rise
Ebonyi, State News Monday, February 28th, 2011ABAKALIKI – Ebonyi State government has set machinery in motion, to ensure that the long agitation by medical doctors in the state over Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, and Consolidated Health Workers Salary Structure, CONHESS, were addressed once and for all.
Commissioner for Health and Environment, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, who spoke during a one-day seminar organized by Senior Health Professionals Cooperative, Thrift and Credit Society Limited in Abakaliki yesterday, noted that the state government was at an advanced stage of creating an amalgamation of both Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital, EBSUTH, and Federal Medical Centre, FMC, in the state.
The fusion of the two institutions, according to Nwangele, will end the problem associated with the clamour by medical doctors for increased salary structure.
He said the objective of the merger would also lead to the creation of a federal teaching hospital that would address the needs of all medical doctors in the state.
He said: “The state government has set machinery that would create a merger of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, and the Ebonyi state University Teaching Hospital, EBSUTH.”wp_posts
