Edo govt to evacuate lunatics, destitute persons from Benin

Edo State Government is set to evacuate lunatics and destitutes constituting nuisance and defacing the state capital, thereby rubbishing the beautification programme of the government.

Besides, government said, “we are committed to good governance and quality infrastructural development to meeting the basic socio-economic needs of the people. We have secured a very comfortable loan with state government’s counterpart involvement worth N500 million so that an industrial layout can be provided for those in the furniture industry. All this is in a bid to make the state economically viable.”

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Simon Imuekemhe, who made this known yesterday in Government House, Benin City, when a group, Edo Youth for Good Governance, paid him a courtesy call said, “Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s unwavering commitment through immense innovations across the critical sectors of the society have been yielding results especially in areas of human capacity building and infrastructural development of Edo State.

“I want to appreciate the unalloyed support you are giving to Governor Oshiomhole. With this type of uncommon support, 2012 is a foregone conclusion. As leaders of tomorrow and for a body of youths to be committed to good governance, it is worthy of commendation. We will continue to give quality service to the people of the state and meet their basic social needs.

“You have all testified to the good roads the Adams Oshiomhole-led government is constructing across the three senatorial districts. You can testify to our efforts at youth development through education and that is why the governor is committed to the quality of schools being built across the state.

On health, you see the gigantic construction of the state-of-the-art complex ongoing at the Central Hospital; so also in the provision of water.

“All you need do for us is to let the people see the efforts of the government in all these areas. I want to thank you for drawing our attention to the menace of lunatics and destitutes in the city centre. We will instruct the appropriate ministry and agency to evacuate them to give effect to our beautification agenda.”
