El-Rufai to probe non-completion of Zaria water project

APPARENTLY disturbed by the perennial water shortage in parts of Kaduna State, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has assured that his administration would complete the Zaria water project and break the jinx stalling the scheme.

El-Rufai said at the weekend during an unscheduled visit to the project site in Zaria that the multi-billion naira Zaria water project was already many years behind schedule despite costing the state so much. Therefore, he directed the contractors to present him comprehensive details of the project.

In a statement by his media aide, Samuel Aruwan, the governor said the non-completion of the project was also responsible for the perennial lack of water in Zaria town and the neighbouring local councils.

“We are here to see things for ourselves,” he said. “The Zaria water project has been on for years without producing a single drop of water. We must work hard to see its successful completion.

We are deeply committed to ensuring efficient and quality service delivery to the eight million people in Kaduna State.”

Insisting on his commitment to the realisation of the project, the governor stressed further: “By the power of Almighty God and the support of the people of Kaduna State, we will break the Zaria water project jinx and bring potable water to Zaria town and the surrounding local councils captured in the project design.

“We have directed those handling the project to come forward and give us comprehensive details and the progress report. The non-completion of the project is causing prolonged hardship for our people. We need to solve the problem.”
