Eminent Nigerians, Togolese pastors bid Omoboriowo goodbye

Remains of the late former Deputy Governor of old Ondo State, Chief Akinwole Michael Omoboriowo, were committed to mother earth yesterday in his Ijero-Ekiti country home, in Ekiti State, with eminent Nigerians and pastors from the Republic of Togo biding him goodbye

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, in demonstration of love for the departed soul, said he would hold talks with critical stakeholders in the state on how to immortalise him.

Omoboriowo was the deputy governor to the late former Governor of Old  Ondo State, Chief  Michael Adekunle Ajasin between 1979 and 1983 before the military coup that aborted the government of President Usman Shehu Shagari.
In his sermon during the burial service, Pastor Joseph Tokpo from Republic of Togo, described the late politician and lawyer  as a selfless democrat, who did not amass wealth during his time as the deputy governor of the Old Ondo State.

The Togolese clergy man, who lamented the death of the elder-statesman, however, urged his family members and admirers to take solace in the fact that the late deputy governor died as a righteous man, having given his life to Christ after his retirement from active politics. Omoboriowo, whose last major outing in Ekiti State was attendance of the burial of the late professor of Economics, Prof Sam Aluko, in Ode Ekiti, died on April 10 after a brief illness.

Other dignitaries who attended the burial ceremony include Governor of old Ondo State, Evang. Bamidele Olumilua; former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Alli Olanusi; Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Mr. Dele Momodu; GMD of First City Monument Bank, Mr. Ladi Balogun; wife of former Ekiti State governor, Mrs. Feyisetan  Fayose; PDP Chairman in the state, Mr.  Makanjuola Ogundipe and Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Chief Jide Awe.
Governor Fayemi described Omoboriowo as a man who loved service to humanity, assuring the people that the upcoming political stars in the state would pursue his legacies in exemplary fashion to the betterment of an average Ekiti man.
