European Union To Set Up Energy Projects In Anambra

THE European Union will set up major energy projects in Anambra State, as part of efforts to tackle the challenge of power supply in Nigeria.

Disclosing this during a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Obi at the Government House, Awka, yesterday, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. David MacRae, said the EU Energy programme, was “designed” for the Federal Government and few States with a view to meeting the energy needs of the country.

Macrae explained that Anambra was selected for the project based on its “outstanding performance in the implementation of various EU programmes under Governor Obi administration.”

According to the Ambassador, the EU is highly impressed with the commitment of the government to uplifting living standards in the State, as well as the Governor’s contribution to reshaping the country.

Dr. MacRae noted that the State’s partnership with the EU in Water and Sanitation Programmes, as well as quality service delivery “is yielding the desired results.”

Explaining that adequate power supply was critical to the State, which, according to him, has the highest concentration of entrepreneurs in Sub-Sahara Africa, Governor Obi thanked the Ambassador for EU’s collaboration with his administration.

He said improved power supply to the State would enhance business activities for small and medium-scale enterprises and create additional opportunities for employment.
