Fresh stock market probe’ll be total – Reps
House, Legislature Monday, March 26th, 2012THE House of Representatives, on Sunday, maintained that its probe on the stock market collapse would be total, with the expected report that would shape the market and restore the confidence of the people.
The House had, last week, dissolved its former committee on Capital Market and other Institutions led by Honourable Herman Hembe, over allegation of bribery levelled against the committee by the now embattled Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ms Arumah Oteh.
After the sack of the committee members, the House then constituted Honourable Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi ad hoc committee to investigate the collapse of the capital market.
In his first public statement, Honourable El-Sudi said “we are here, fresh in blood and mind, seeking to reverse the myriad of problems seeking to destroy our economy through the capital market.
“Based on the fresh mandate, this committee has resolved to carry out an independent inquest into the issues and urge all stakeholders to give us maximum cooperation.”
He said the principles of fairness, equity, justice and freedom of expression would be the hallmark of the exercise.
