This column will today and next week, hopefully, publish some of the rejoinders to my article last week. Please, fresh reactions may not be published subsequently because of unaddressed subsisting feedback and other allied issues craving my attention, too.
YOUR article and opinion about the sorry state of decay of Abia State (especially Aba) couldn’t have been written any better. You did your homework very well and I applaud you! We (Abians) now know we have a problem that is so profound that we need to have not only a decent sense of purpose to solve it but a great understanding of its source and origin to be able to effectively deal with it once and for all, so that it does not continue to recur. Without sincerity and honesty of purpose, it will continue to be a ‘merry-go-round’. I have for a long time been depressed over the deplorable state of affairs of our dear state. We cannot run away from it by withdrawing cowardly into our ‘snail’ or ‘turtle’ shells. We have to tell the truth no matter on whose laps the blame lands. The problem about us Nigerians is that we are ‘tigers abroad (in other people’s countries proclaiming and demanding ‘our’ God-given rights) but cowards and pussycats at home’ too afraid to demand the same from our so-called leaders. “He that has nothing to die for definitely has nothing to live for”. What are we afraid of? Let God’s will be done! If it is one’s time to go, so be it! We blame others for our woes and forget to see how many proverbial fingers are pointing at us. We should take responsibility for our individual and collective actions. We cannot blame the party machinery for our woes; we hold ourselves responsible for either tolerating the evolving (understand that I did not say ‘election’) emergence of ‘crooks’, selfish, wicked and un-Godly beings into political offices of this importance. We do it to our detriment and demise and suffering horribly through this ordeal. Tell me how you can honestly claim that these human beings really won elections (based on their records)? Yet, we are held hostage without any mass rally to protest awful ‘leadership! These people continue their arrogance with impunity to proceed to the senate after the ‘loot and horror’ they leave behind left unchallenged. Abia’s problem (for the most part) started with the previous administration before this present one which he was an integral part of. He was a key architect of the administration before his! May God forgive us! “Heavens help those who help themselves”! God has given us ‘brains’ and intellect, what we do with them, is our own decision. God knows, I hold no political ambition in any way, shape or form! However, I hold dear to my Great Creator (who has created me to be an Abian and of course, a Nigerian) to speak the truth when lives are being ‘wasted’ by such actions as these. The state of Abia has been on a downward slide and spiral and worsened for the past seven years and counting. When are we going to stop and say ‘enough is enough’? Let’s address the genesis of this ‘mess’; who have been responsible for all these messes created?; what did they do wrong, what can we do about it to correct it?; and how to make sure this sad history does not repeat itself. Maybe we as citizens and the common man are to blame because we ascribed a mature assignment to be executed by the hands of a little and inexperienced hand! You cannot expect something from someone that he does not have inside him to give. It should have been our collective responsibility to discover the true deficiencies of our so-called ‘leaders’ before we allowed them into office. They cannot give us what they don’t have inside. To continue in this fashion is ‘suicidal’ for this great state of ours. The situation is so bad that these ‘men’ continue with the impunity of madness by seeking continued political dispensation of their ‘rot’; by seeking senatorial ambitions; why wouldn’t they? They got away with it two previous instances! The great wizard, Albert Einstein, once defined the word ‘Insanity’ as “Doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result”! Need I say more? Abians have been through these paths several times before so why do we act surprised when we get the same results and outcome? That is ‘insanity’, if you ask me! KUDOS to Godswill Akpabio (a true redemption for our beloved brothers and sisters next door), Fashola, Imoke, Amaechi, Oshiomole, Mimiko, Obi, Bala and others like him who have tried to make a difference (no matter how small). The saying goes, “can anything good come out of Nazareth”? That is your answer right there and may God continue to bless him. That man right there is your justification for a ‘third term’ and I am glad to know that he has the right ‘Ekaette’ to support him. Again, thank you for an article very well-done. However, it will be an act of ‘injustice’ if you do not follow up with how it all started, how to “never again” let it occur, and above all, the solution to our present predicament. God bless you as you subscribe to the truth with no ‘sycophantic’ attributes! AMEN. (EMEKA EKEKE from my inbox)
THE joy I felt after I finished reading yourpiece knew no bounds.
The truth being that people that I respect “like you” have decided to speak up on the system of governance in our dear state.
I have almost lost the zeal to visit my state. It became worse because we lost our literally car on the 25th of December when we came home for the Christmas celebrations due to bad roads.
My brother, the road we saw on the television and on the newspaper that seemed innocent was what consumed our new jeep. Thank God for my life and that of my family. I know God will give me the opportunity to engage a person like Prof. Nwokeocha Nkpa he employed to further promote his game of deceit.
I do nothave much to say for now, but I pray God will continue to bless you and give you the courage to expose that propagandist they call Ochendo. We can’t wait to join your vanguard soon! (From graceforbakas@yahoo.com)
I have read your criticism of Gov. T.A Orji’s misrule of Abia State with utmost satisfaction, but the question I want to ask is; is it not rather too late, where have you guys been for the almost seven years that this misfit has been plundering our dear state? Why did you not use this medium you are privileged to have (which a majority of us do not have) to expose the monumental looting of the collective wealth of hapless Abians.
I enjoin you and other well-meaning Abians to join hands in fighting this monster and to help in enthroning good governance in Abia State in 2015. Abia and Abians have suffered enough. Thank you. (From Deacon Uche Ufomadu. Benin City).
