Headlines, Soccer, Sports Thursday, November 5th, 2015Emmanuel Amuneke came to the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup as one of the rookies in the coaching business, but the former Barcelona star has been able to confound even the ‘experts’ in the game with his unorthodox tactics that has made everybody to sit up and take notes.
After Sunday’s 3-0n defeat of Brazil, the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) saddled with the responsibility of ‘monitoringinternational matches and identifying latest footballing trends’ applaudedthe tactical savvy of Coach Amuneke for the ease with which they dispatched the Samba Boys.
Desmond (Desi) Curry,a member of the TSG, had sought out Amuneke aheadof their trumping of the A Selecao of Brazil at the Estadio Sausalitoto explain briefly his seemingly obstructive tactics which have confounded opposing teams at this tournament.
The team, according to TSG’s elderly man from Northern Ireland, has brought to bear a new trendwith varied styles and deployment of players when ‘havingor not having the ball,’hence the need for clarification.
“Sincerely, we (TSG panel)have tried to understand the tactics youare using but it is confusing,” Curry told Amuneke matter-of-factly.
“I have donesome of your matches here but it is unusual to see a Number 10 (Kelechi Nwakali) playing deep as much as we have seen your player here.
“This is a new trend and we are going to include some of your explanationsin the Technical Report of the championshipbecause the tactical approach ofyour team stands out,” he noted.
The TSG was introduced49 years ago by FIFA at the 1966 FIFA WorldCup Englandand current Super Eagles’ Head Coach, SundayOliseh, was on the panel at the last FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
