Govs Deplore Blast, Say Masterminds Are Enemies

GOVERNORS deplored yesterday’s bombing of the United Nations (UN) office in Abuja, describing the perpetrators of the heinous crime as enemies of Nigeria.
The governors included Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Theodore Orji (Abia) and Gabriel Suswam (Benue).
Ajimobi, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Dr. Festus Adedayo, wondered what could have been the motive of those behind the bombing.
He said: “This act of heightening tension and creating unnecessary fear of insecurity in the country by the masterminds of the bombing is condemnable in all its ramifications. There is really nothing wrong in citizens or group of citizens having an axe to grind with the country. “They should desist from turning Nigeria into a terrorist nation, which will eventually rub-off on our collective image as Nigerians.’’
Besides, he noted that such dastardly act would also not help Nigeria in its quest to attain a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.
Orji described the bombing as another vain attempt at destablising the country.
Orji, in a statement by his Adviser on Electronic Media, Ugochukwu Emezue, said those behind the dastardly act are enemies of democracy who are ready to do anything to create an atmosphere of insecurity in the country.
The governor urged the security agencies not to be discouraged by the latest bombing.
According to Dr. Cletus Akwaya, Suswam’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, the governor “said the criminal act was perpetrated by persons whose intention was to portray Nigeria in negative light before the International community.
“Nigeria’s relevance in Africa and in the International comity of nations is on the ascendancy and some enemies of progress want to give our dear country a bad image before the international community”, he stated
